Chill out about energy costs and save this summer!

As your year-round, total home comfort provider, we can help you make the smartest decisions about energy saving, which is why we’re sharing our AC checklist with you! AC Checklist:

  • Get the right equipment, and have it installed correctly – The best way to save energy costs is to replace old cooling equipment with a new, energy-efficient model. Equipment must be the right size, and installed properly, to reach its potential. An improper installation can reduce system efficiency by up to 30%, which means your bills cost more and possibly shortening the life of the equipment (see chart to right).

  • Bigger isn’t necessarily better – If you buy a system that is too large for your home, it will frequently go through “On/Off” cycling, leaving you uncomfortable.

  • Change filters regularly – Check filters monthly, especially during heavy use months, and if a filter looks dirty after a month, don’t be afraid to change it. At a minimum, change filers every 3 months to improve efficiency and air quality.

  • Tune-up equipment – Schedule an off-season tune-up to stop problems BEFORE they happen, and before it gets too hot! Ask about our Sure Start service plan to ensure your equipment is ready to go.

  • Install a programmable thermostat – A cheap and easy way to save a few hundred bucks in energy costs and reduce your carbon footprint is to install a programmable thermostat that will automatically heat or cool your home while at work or sleeping. You can take advantage of stimulus offerings and rebates, and may qualify for federal or state tax savings. Then you can take advantage of special offers, like ours!

  • Clear areas around systems or units – Remove leaves and other debris from system components to improve air flow.

  • Seal ducts properly – Leaky ducts may mean up to 20% of the air moving through your home is leaking into spaces that you don’t want to cool. Our service technicians will test the leakage rate and seal duct seams and connections with duct sealant, a metalbacked tape, or aerosol sealant.

  • Optimize air flow – Our service technicians can test air flow and make any needed adjustments to optimize air flow, and keep your utility bills from going up.

  • Install ceiling fans – Fans cool your home by pulling cool air through the house and exhausting warm air.
